How does FloLogic know the difference between regular water use and a leak?
The system uses timers to determine intended water flow and unintended water flow. If water flow exceeds the timer for any mode it is in, FloLogic will assume it is unintended flow or a leak, and will shut off the water and sound an alarm. The two main timers are the HOME and AWAY modes. [TOP]

How sensitive is the system’s leak detection ability?
FloLogic uses a Flow Sensor that can detect as little as 0.5oz. per minute. The factory Preset drip rate is set to 2oz. per minute and is easily customizable. [TOP]

Where is the FloLogic system installed?
The system can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications and is installed after the meter at a single point on the water main where the line enters the home. It is frequently installed downstream of irrigation systems and must never be installed on fire suppression lines. The control panel should be located inside the home where it can be conveniently accessed. [TOP]

What if I want to fill my pool or run water for extended periods of time?
FloLogic has a BYPASS mode with a timer, which will allow you to run the water for extended periods of time without activating the alarm or shut-off feature. After the bypass time has elapsed the system will automatically revert back the mode it was previously in. The BYPASS mode is Preset for 120 minutes but you can change the setting from 1 – 999 minutes (16 hours and 65 minutes). [TOP]

What happens if my power goes out?
Absolutely nothing. FloLogic has a rechargeable battery backup that will allow the system to continue operating for about a week as if there were no interruption to the power. Even if the system loses power for any reason, it will remain in the position it was in when the power was lost and your settings will be saved. There is even a manual override on the top of the actuator to allow you to open or close the valve. [TOP]

Will FloLogic work with my lawn irrigation system?
Yes. One option is to install the FloLogic downstream of the irrigation system so that the lawn can be watered continuously and unmonitored by the FloLogic. This however, leaves your irrigation line unprotected from leaks. Another option is to install FloLogic before the irrigation system and connect a low-voltage relay wire from the irrigation system control panel to the “Override” contact in the FloLogic control panel. This simple and inexpensive step will override the Home and Away timers while the irrigation system is operating. Before choosing this option you should be sure that your irrigation system has this interface capability. [TOP]

Can I use the system to completely shut my water off?
Yes. Shutting off your water is as easy as pushing two buttons on the control panel. [TOP]

What if I forget to put the system in the AWAY mode before I leave the house?
FloLogic has a customizable feature called Automatic AWAY, which will automatically put the system into the AWAY mode after a period of time where no water flow has been observed. The factory Preset is 18 hours of no water flow but this can be turned off or changed from 1-99 hours. [TOP]

If multiple showers or dishwashers and washing machines are running at once, will this cause a problem?
Not necessarily. The amount of water being used is irrelevant, only the amount of time the water runs continuously will affect the alarm. Dishwashers and washing machines only draw water for relatively short periods of time during fill or rinse cycles and showers are usually turned off between uses from one person to the next. Assuming each shower is shorter than the HOME timer and they do not overlap to create continuous water flow beyond the timer limits, it will not trigger the alarm. If you find that this is an issue, you may simply increase the HOME timer to allow longer water usage. [TOP]

Does the system require any maintenance?
No. Another unique feature of this system is a software function that periodically “exercises” the ball valve to ensure the system is operating correctly. [TOP]

How do I connect the FloLogic to my home security system for monitoring?
Call a technician from your security system company to come to your home to connect the FloLogic to their alarm panel. The connection is relatively simple and can be completed in under an hour. [TOP]

How long does a typical installation take?
Installation times can vary depending on your plumbing system but most installations can be completed between 2 and 4 hours. [TOP]

Is the system “user friendly?”
FloLogic is the most comprehensive and yet easiest to use leak detection system on the market today. It has a digital control panel with an LCD screen, soft-touch buttons and a simple menu for easy programming. It even comes with a Quick Reference Guide for common commands that slides down behind the control panel. [TOP]

My water is off and I hear the alarm. What should I do?
An alarm trigger will shut off the water. To restore the water and look for the source of the problem, simply press DISABLE to silence the alarm and then HOME to turn on the water. If there is no water in use in the house but the pinwheel image on the control panel screen is spinning, there is water flowing through your plumbing system. The most common cause of water flow is from leaking flapper valves in toilet fill-tanks and dripping indoor and outdoor faucets or showerheads. Other causes may be a leaking washing machine hose, a leaking boiler or a slab leak from a buried pipe, which can be difficult to detect.
After you have eliminated the possibility of a leak, consider the following. The alarm can trigger for several reasons:
  1. Your system timers are set too low for your water consumption patterns. If this is the case, your timers can be easily increased by pressing: ACCEPT & PROG simultaneously, then press NEXT to scroll to the “home” timer screen. Press the arrow-up button until it reads the desired minutes, then press accept.
  2. You have an automatic appliance connected to your plumbing system that is drawing water such as a humidifier, water filter or water softener. For humidifiers, make sure no water is running in the house and turn the heat all the way up. This will start the humidification system. You can then test the DRIP RATE in the pipes at that moment and set the new drip rate to accommodate the water needs of the humidifier. (See Owner’s Manual pg. 19-20,35). If water filters or softeners are installed upstream of the FloLogic, override relay wires can be run from the FloLogic control panel to the filter or softener controls to prevent false alarms.
  3. Many homes have some movement in their water main caused by the Hot Water Tank. You can determine if this is the cause by temporarily turning off the valve that controls water flow in to your tank and checking the screen to see if the pinwheel has stopped.
  4. Sometimes water from a municipal source can apply water pressure into the home’s plumbing system that will read as flow. To isolate this movement, a check valve can be installed after the meter before the FloLogic. [TOP]
Why is my plumbing “coughing” and spitting when I turn the water on?
Coughing and spitting in the plumbing indicates air trapped in the lines. This can happen after installation if the lines were not completely bled. To bleed the air from the pipes, turn on all showers and faucets and flush toilets starting with the top floor and moving down to the bottom floor water outlets. This should take no more than 5 minutes of water flow. [TOP]

Can other leak detection devices be connected to FloLogic?
Yes. Even though the system uses the whole-house approach to leak detection by monitoring water flow from a single point on the water main, you have the option of connecting moisture sensors to the device for additional protection if you wish. [TOP]
